Week 26 - Statue of Munnerty

It's 4th of July weekend and you know what that means!!! Fireworks! Grillin'! MACARONI SALAD!!! (man, I love me some macaroni salad) and, I'm sure, some other things that don't involve food or shooting explosives into the sky. (errr... I mean, trying to protect our crops from birds and insects... am I right people who sell fireworks out of tents? wink wink)

This week's Munny is more than meets the eye! No, it doesn't transform, it lights up. Seriously! The torch of the Statue of Munnerty lights up! How cool is that? (don't just trust me... check out the picture below)

You know, I think I have actually been inside the Statue of Liberty. I couldn't have been very old, but I have a very foggy memory of climbing up a heck of a lot of winding stairs to the top of the crown. I guess I'll have to ask my parents about THAT one.

Edit: a quote from an e-mail from my father minutes after posting this post - "OMG...you scared me almost speechless. As we were on our way back down you kept walking out of the stairwell onto these platforms where falling to the base of the statue was only prevented by a slack chain." He also mentioned that he was carrying my cousin in a backpack... and she is only 2 years younger than me, so I couldn't have been more than 4 or 5 years old.

Week 25 - Cocomunn

Now, I don't know what the weather has been like in your neck of the woods, but here in sunny Tampa, Florida we have only had one day in the entire month of June (June 1, in fact) that the temperature hasn't hit at least 90 degrees Fahrenheit. (Many days ranging from 93 to 95)

Now, I spend most of my days running from my air conditioned home to my air conditioned car, into my air conditioned office, back into my air conditioned car and back into my air conditioned home in order to avoid the heat of the harsh Florida sun (Yes. It is a skill to still be THIS white and live in Florida... it's called "Don't Go Outside Between the Hours of 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.")

However, some days, usually when I'm right in the middle of a project at work, my mind starts to drift off to a land full of palm trees, beaches, and apparently, according to the poorly photoshopped image above, hula girls with fruity tropical drinks inside coconut cups for heads... and I'm ok with that. 

"But Greg," you say, "you already live in a land of palm trees, beaches and sunshine. What more can you possibly want?"

To you, I say, "come get me out of my air conditioned home when you find me a well-tanned hula dancer that has a tasty tropical beverage instead of a head." and "Good day sir!" :::weirdo:::

Week 24 - Fly me to the Munn

It's a bird... it's a plane... it's... actually, it IS a plane (Take THAT Superman)

Seeing it is Father's Day weekend I decided it would be the perfect time to unleash the Munny that my father suggested. An airplane munny. Although my father isn't a pilot by trade he has been flying airplanes for as long as I can remember and has most likely had an interest in doing so for a much longer period of time.

My father enjoys airplanes SO much that he decided to build one... in our basement. I'm not talking about a model airplane here folks.. I'm talking about a full-sized two-seater airplane, built out of wood and glue. (and other things that make airplanes into airplanes)

I came across this article the other day about a man who also built an airplane in his basement and had to dig up his yard and have a wall removed in order to get the thing out of there. I don't know why he didn't just do what my father always told me was the plan.... Start the engine, raise a corner of the house and fly it out. To me, it just seemed so much easier.

Originally, for this post I was going to go through the movie 300 and take all of the notable quotes and change them to make them fit The University of Tampa (The Spartans and where I have gone to school, worked, or announced sporting events spanning the last 10 years.) Then, after realizing I thought there were a ton more amazing quotes in the movie than there actually were, I gave up. But, Please enjoy the two I came up with (located in the images above and below)

Week 22 - Poolside Petey

Sings, "Summer time, summer time, sum sum summer time!" That is right ladies and gents... It is officially the period of time between Memorial Day and Labor Day that is regularly considered by the general population as SUMMER TIME!

Summer during my childhood meant exactly two things... something was getting grilled EVERY night (we switched back and forth between chicken and burgers) and during the day I was in the pool. I'm not sure, but I might have even developed gills. ::: insert rimshot here::: So grab your trunks, swimmies and goggles and meet me by the pool (No running by the pool!) because summer is officially here!

* A very special thank you goes out to master craftsman, Tom Bowdler (my dad) for his consultation on how to make the swim mask look like it has plastic or glass... even though I wasn't able to use any of his suggested methods because craft stores in Florida don't carry anything that isn't regularly used by old people. (i.e. knitting needles, fake flowers, and that glue used to hold jigsaw puzzles together) Also... look at that water in The University of Tampa pool!!! I didn't photoshop it or anything! Dang that looks refreshing!

Week 21 - Munnmorial Day!

Happy Munnmorial Day!

Now remember kids... Memorial day is not just the first day off from work this summer. (although, that's pretty awesome) It is the time to remember those brave men and women who fought and died for this country and what it stands for. It is for the ones who were never lucky enough to ever become veterans.

Week 20 - Zombie Awareness Munth

According to the Zombie Research Society (www.zombieresearch.org) May is Zombie Awareness Month. Sadly, their official website seems to be more concerned with the selling of t-shirts than researching anything these days. I still feel that the ever-present threat of zombies is something that should be stored in the back of all of our minds. Have you developed your zombie contingency plan?

My plan? obtain two ninja swords (a la Leonardo... turtle... not artist), some snacks, a light-weight automatic weapon with plenty of ammunition and then get on the next boat heading to Madagascar. (Anyone who has ever played Dark Realm Studios' Pandemic II knows that Madagascar is the hardest region to affect... which leads me to believe it will be the last place to get infected. Plus I'd get to hang out with those cool penguins) I think  I'll be just fine.
