Week 14 - Crash Test Munny

SOLD!

Some statistic somewhere says that there are over 6 million car accidents in the USA every year. This past Monday I was on the receiving end of one of those collisions. Don’t worry my lovely people of the internet, I’m perfectly ok… I even still made it to work on time. I’m amazing… I know.

It got me thinking, though… about those poor individuals that end up in a lot more collisions than the rest of us - Crash test dummies. (No, not the band; those guys have unfortunate lives all their own.)

This week’s Munny is a tribute to those lifesaving heaps of plastic and metal. (And not those creepy ones from the seat belt safety commercials of the late ‘80s, either) I’m talking about the hard working ones that get into collision after collision just to ensure our safety. This is what it would look like if I were a crash test dummy, instead of a ridiculously awesome human being. Enjoy.

The next Munny will be posted on Friday, April 15. If you have any ideas for a Munny you would like to see, post a comment here or send me an email at gbowdler@gmail.com.

Week 13 - MunnInk

SOLD!

This week marks another one of those milestone weeks in the 2011 Munny A Week project. I have spent the last 12 weeks customizing a 4" mini Munny Action Figure with everything from turtles to tree stumps. This week, however, I've decided to customize a 73" Mega Greg Bowdler Action Figure with a 4" mini Munny. That's right! This week, Thursday evening in particular, I braved the massive storm and went under the needle to have the Munny logo permanently affixed to my arm. How's that for dedication? Luckily, I brought a friend along to catch the whole experience on film...

Click the video below to view. (Don't bother... it is fake - keep reading.)

The Next Munny will be posted on April 8, 2011. If there is a Munny you would like to see, make sure to leave a comment here or send an e-mail to gbowdler@gmail.com

APRIL FOOLS!!!

If you clicked on the "video" image before it would have taken you to a second blog where you would have found the following post:

Week 13 - Whoopee Munnshion

Eww. Who farted?! Okay, Okay. Sooo, by now you can tell that I didn't really get any "ink done."* But, what I did do was create this little Munny above and this hoax of a blog post in the spirit of April Fools Day!

I absolutely LOVE April Fools Day! It gives me an excuse to do little tricks to everyone AND not get into any sort of trouble for it. I wanted to go old school for this Munny and what is a more classic trick than to slip a Whoopee Cushion under someone's chair and wait for them to sit down. I'm rolling on the floor laughing just thinking about it! So, go on out there and play tricks on everyone today... but make sure you are safe while doing so. Nobody wants to lose their job... or a finger.

The next Munny will be posted on April 8, 2011. If you have any ideas for a Munny you would like to see, drop a comment below or send me an e-mail at gbowdler@gmail.com.

* Can I just say that I'm very surprised by the lack of cooperation of the Tampa Bay tattooing industry? I spent a good portion of my evening calling tattoo parlors inquiring if they would allow me to come in and film them prepping me for a tattoo so the video would actually exist... up until the actual application of ink under my skin... and not a single one would take my munny.. er... i mean... money. Geesh. How is a guy suppose to pull off a convincing prank in this town?

Week 12 - Munt Chocolate Chip

SOLD!

I scream. You scream. We all scream for this week’s Munny. Ahhhhhhh! <= that was me screaming J

It’s currently 74 degrees and sunny in Tampa, Florida. Sure it might only be the first week of Spring but my northern-raised body is screaming Summer and that means one thing. ICECREAM! Om nom nom.

I remember summers as a kid when little league games often ended with a trip to Friendly’s to get a sugar cone adorned with a scoop or two of creamy goodness. The best days were when we ended up at a small farm-stand named Esther’s Olde Tyme County Market. This place served scoops the size of my adolescent head. Let’s just say it was AMAZING!

A major shout out goes to Caitlyn Corrao. She is the one who suggested this week’s Munny idea as well as has helped in many other aspects of this project. (Not to mention in the rest of my life) She has played reluctant model (above), photographer, brain-stormer, muse, design consultant, and various other very important roles. You rock Caitlyn! Thanks for everything!

The next Munny will be posted on Friday, April 1st. (and that's no joke) If you have any ideas for a Munny you would like to see, post a comment here or send me an e-mail at gbowdler@gmail.com.

Week 11 - Top O' The Munny To Ya!

SOLD!

OMFG! Finally after all of these years I've caught a leprechaun and his pot was filled with something other than breakfast cereal! "Umm, those are just chocolate coins." FINE! ruin the magic! I wish you all the best on this day that people drink questionably colored liquids and lie about their heritage just to get a little action! May the Luck O' The Irish be with you!

This is another special week in the Munny A Week 2011 project. With 11 Munnys I've officially gotten farther than my 2010 predecessor who owns the website www.munnyaweek.com. Even after a month-long hiatus, he fell short of his 52 munny goal by a whopping 42 munnys. I couldn't have done it without all of you!

The next Munny will be posted on Friday, March 25th. If there is a Munny YOU would like to see, comment here or send me an e-mail at gbowdler@gmail.com.

Week 10 - Scooter the Turtle

SOLD!

Once upon a time (just about 5 years ago) in an apartment complex about 11 miles away, I was walking down the sidewalk to go check my mail when I see this bird pecking at a rock. As I got closer the bird, noticeably unpleased with my presence, makes one last gallant attempt of lodging the rock in its beak and takes off.

The rock dislodged mid-takeoff and came crashing to the ground. I came upon the rock only to realize it wasn’t a rock at all. It was a little baby turtle, no bigger than a quarter. So, I did what any critter loving 8-year old would do, (so what if I was 23) I scooped him up, put him in my pocket and snuck him into a cardboard box in my bedroom.

Now, at this time, I was a single, unemployed, too far from graduation to be called recent college graduate, with a case of depression and a bank balance just as low. But, somehow, I figured life with me couldn’t be much worse for the little guy than the way I found him. So, with my last bit of savings I went to the pet store, bought him a teeny tiny tank, some turtle food and our bond was sealed. That night I named him Scooter.

The next day I got an interview to be a part-time employee with The University of Tampa. A few days later (March 15th) I got the job. With my first paycheck I went back to the pet store and bought scooter a 10-gallon fish tank, and some fish room-mates to celebrate.

It’s now five years later. That 10-gallon fish tank has turned into a 40-gallon fish tank, (which now seems a bit cramped) That part-time University of Tampa job turned into a full-time job, then another, and another, and even another. Scooter’s fish room-mates have been plentiful and, as I’m sure he’d agree, tasty. (He eats everything… literally. From bananas to spaghetti, fish to vanilla milkshakes. His favorite is popcorn)

He’s more dog than turtle, really. Every day when I get home he swims up to the edge of his tank and makes such a racket, splashing around, just trying to swim to me. He stops thrashing when I pick him up and he just sits there, staring at me, content.

So, this week I am celebrating the 5th birthday of my dear friend Scooter the Turtle. He’s gone from the size of a quarter to larger than my hand. I hope to be hanging with Scoots until we are both old and gray.

The next Munny will be posted on Friday, March 18th. If you have any ideas for a Munny you would like to see, post a comment here or send me an e-mail at gbowdler@gmail.com.

This is Scooter between 1 and 2 years old hanging out with his plastic friends.

Week 9 - May I have the envelope please....

SOLD!

Who doesn’t love the Academy Awards? It’s really got something for everyone: Fancy Dresses, Movie Stars, and Opportunities to Lose Your Life Savings in the Office Betting Pool. (Lost by one freakin’ Oscar… damn you Trent Reznor!)

But, do you know who I really feel sorry for? Whoever must have lost their job last night when Aaron Sorkin (Winner of Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network) talked for over a minute after the orchestra started playing. I just imagine the stage manager, head of celebrity escortation and orchestra conductor all pointing fingers at each other after the show. Hilarious!

So, the winner, for the Best Adapted Award Show Statue goes to….. (cricket’s chirping)

This week’s Munny! Congratulations little guy! You deserve it!

And Yes. This is the second time in Munny A Week 2011 history that I’ve posted a Munny on the “Munnday” before it’s due. Looks like I just bought myself the rest of the week off! Everyone have a GREAT start to March and I’ll be back a week from Friday with a Munny customization that is very near and dear to my heart!

The next Munny will be posted on Friday, March 11th. If you have any ideas for a Munny you would like to see, post a comment here or send me an e-mail at gbowdler@gmail.com.

Week 8 – Sock Munnkey

SOLD!

One of the great things about working in a university setting overseeing college students is the flow of ideas and how quickly something mediocre can turn into something brilliant. This week’s Munny inspiration came out of one of those conversations. Just over a month ago I was bored and decided to organize my sock drawer. (Mind you, this was the first time that has been done in, well, maybe forever) I ended up with 34 pairs of socks and 18 without their solemate (get it? sole – mate? Heelarious… get it? heel-arious? Never mind, I’m done).

I tweeted this information (like all of the other mundane facts of my existence… isn’t twitter great?) and the next day at work the conversation started. “Do a sock puppet, the lost sock, sock this or sock that”, my students eagerly shared with me. And so I decided to twist it just a bit further and went with the classic sock item of ALL TIME, the sock monkey. – Enjoy!

The next Munny will be posted on Friday, March 4th. If you have any ideas for a Munny you would like to see, post a comment here or send me an e-mail at gbowdler@gmail.com.
